Backpacking Made Easy, With 4-Footed Friends
8/29/2009 11:03:38 PM
IT was a sublime moment. Deep in the woods, the fire had burned down to glowing coals. Our sticky-faced children munched contentedly on perfect s’mores, the marshmallows uniformly toasted and gooey. Pine cones popped in the fire. And nearby, the llamas grazed quietly in the bushes. . . . Complete story

Lovely Llamas, Walk Away Our City Cares
8/5/2009 4:09:00 AM
Probably like many Angelenos, we're often out with the dog, and while we stare at the dog, and the dog stares at a tree, and the minutes pass, and hours pass, we get to thinking: What would it be like to walk an animal, say, 40 times this pup's size? . . . Complete story

Llamas, Fortunately

But Wilde’s happy-go-lucky and adventurous lifestyle developed a twist when he wound up a father. It was one thing to go it alone in the wilderness, another thing to care for his young child. His solution: a llama. . . . Complete story

Annual family festival offers ode to Andean pack animal

The Krishna Temple has had llamas on its grounds for almost 25 years. Followers of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness religion enjoyed hiking, but didn't like carrying around the heavy supplies -- so they invested in llamas to help. The sale of a llama to a wealthy businessman even helped raise enough funds to purchase the land to build the temple back in 1991. . . . Complete story

Yellowstone 2008
8/11/2008 3:17:59 AM
We had another great trip. The mosquitoes and horse flies were out in force and were a constant nusiance for the llamas. They weren't as much of a problem when we were moving but when we stopped or camped they were there. Most of the time the llamas were tethered at camp they would be laying down to protect their undersides and were constantly rubbing their heads on the grass or nearby bushes. Of course when hiking they liked to rub their head on the back of our packs too. . . . Complete story
